Developing a New Vision Statement for the United States Pony Clubs

By Rae Birr, Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee

Keeping our mission statement front and center is an intentional move forward as we address the Strategic Plan goals of the United States Pony Clubs (USPC or Pony Club). It became apparent that our vision statement was not as effectively in line with our goals as it could be, and a revision was developed.

Our Mission Statement

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. is an educational organization which builds the foundations of teamwork and sportsmanship through riding, mounted sports, care of horses and ponies, while developing and enhancing leadership, confidence, responsibility, and a sense of community in its youth and adult members.

The mission focuses on the present and what we do and how we do it.  The vision focuses on the overall goals of the organization and looks to the future.

Our New Vision Statement

The United States Pony Clubs vision is to be the leading source and voice of education in horse care, safety, and equestrian pursuits

Our vision statement is an integral part of our strategic planning, so it should complement, yet be distinct, from our mission statement, and it should inspire us all to move forward with our goals for Pony Club into the future.

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. (USPC or Pony Club) is the largest equestrian educational organization in North America. Started in 1954, the organization has developed curriculum that teaches safe riding skills and the care of horses through mounted and unmounted lessons. Through Pony Club, members have fun with horses and make lifelong friends while they develop skills, habits, and values that extend well beyond the barn and last a lifetime. Many members apply what they have learned in the USPC program successfully in their careers, educational and volunteer opportunities, and other life pursuits.
