Pony Club Creating Global Connections Through International Experiences

By Gillian Warner

The equine industry stretches internationally, building a community of committed, hardworking, and compassionate horsemen and horsewomen globally. Finding opportunities to connect with and participate in a global community provides the chance to explore new ideas, develop an open mind, and create lasting friendships.

During my time in high school, my school participated in an exchange with a high school in Germany. One of the German students who came to spend the year at my school in Pennsylvania happened to ride horses. Being able to connect with him through the barn and as we spent afternoons on trail rides allowed me to develop a broader understanding of the industry I care about so much, share my own experiences, and form a lasting connection with someone I might not have otherwise met.

I seek out opportunities to connect with horsemen and horsewomen within our Community—locally, but also nationally and internationally. We have so much we can learn from one another, and we have so many new experiences to try!

Pony Club understands the value in creating these global connections. Through the Pony Club International Exchange, Pony Club members from across the world can meet and connect through a shared interest. What better way to make friends and explore the world than from the back of a horse?

If you’re interested in expanding your equestrian community globally, consider looking into Pony Club’s International Exchange. For more information, visit www.ponyclub.org/Members/InternationalExchanges.

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. (USPC or Pony Club) is the largest equestrian educational organization in North America. Started in 1954, the organization has developed curriculum that teaches safe riding skills and the care of horses through mounted and unmounted lessons. Through Pony Club, members have fun with horses and make lifelong friends while they develop skills, habits, and values that extend well beyond the barn and last a lifetime. Many members apply what they have learned in the USPC program successfully in their careers, educational and volunteer opportunities, and other life pursuits.
