Time to Be Aware of Screwworm and How It Could Impact the Horse Industry
New World Screwworm (NWS) continues to creep towards the United States border from Mexico. On September 21, 2025, Mexico’s National Service of Agro-Alimientary Health, Safety, and Quality (SENASICA) confirmed the detection of New World Screwworm less than 70 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border. New World Screwworms are parasitic fly larvae that burrow into the flesh of animals and humans, causing painful, often deadly infestations. It's important for horse owners to be aware of this pest, and to know the plan set by the United States Department of Agriculture if it reaches the United States.

Dr. Marty Whitehouse Riney, Pony Club Alum: Finding Her Work-Life Balance
By all accounts, Dr. Marty Whitehouse Riney is doing the impossible—and making it look effortless. A mother of two young girls, owner of MWR Equine Dentistry LLC and co-owner of Nicholasville Road Animal Hospital, Marty begins each day before dawn tending to the menagerie of animals—including, but not limited to, two leopard geckos and a miniature donkey—on the six-acre Central Kentucky farm she shares with her husband, Tom. In between work and family time, she nurtures a lifelong passion for eventing. Audrina McCall: For the Love of Ponies
When Pony Club member Audrina McCall made her Pony Finals debut at 8 years old in 2023, she was the youngest rider in the Green Pony Hunters division—and she was riding the oldest pony: New Moon, aka Willie. “He was 17 years old and only had one eye; he was a pony everyone said would never qualify for Pony Finals, Audrina said.
