Today’s story was sent to us from Sarah Bonnaure, DC of Lone Star Pony Club and Vice Regional Supervisor in the Rio Grande Region. Her Daughter Reece rescued and rehabbed a horse she is now competing successfully!
Lone Star Pony Club member Reece Bonnaure (D3 HM/D2 Trad), joined the club borrowing her mom’s horse. After she proved to her mom that she was serious about riding, they started looking for an option for a horse of her own. One night about a year ago, their previous DC called her mom and told her a Pony Club graduate had rescued a former Pony Club horse who had fallen on very hard times. He needed a lot of love and TLC. Reece and her mom put the phone down and went to meet Jase. It was love at first sight, even though it wasn’t a pretty sight. Reece knew this would be a longer path to her “show horse” but she had a feeling it would be a very rewarding journey. And boy has it! In addition to being a true partner and friend, in just a little over a year, Jase has gone from skin and bones and taking his first ever steps over poles, to high point champion in the entry division at their local eventing facility. The pair were also members of the winning Rally & Horse Management teams at the Rio Grande Region Dressage Rally last week, with a high score of 69% in Intro B! The best part of the story — the love, care and concern of Pony Club members present and past to rescue Jase and bring out the show horse in all of us.
