If you ever have a chance to look at Francesca Spoltore’s — USEA record—at 13 Years Old—it is an impressive list of horses that she has competed at 3-Day Events from Texas to South Carolina from Beginner Novice to Training Level. Amazingly enough, with the exception of a mount that she competed early this Spring, West Point, owned by Betsy Ball of Red Bud Farm in Starkville, MS, all her mounts have never competed in a dressage show or jumper show. They haven’t done a 3-Day Event until Francesca takes them out. Francesca is a Pony Club Member that just jumps in the saddle and says, “let’s GO and see what happens”. Her current string of horses have all been given to Francesca as the owners know that this is one little girl that puts her heart and soul into working with them day in and day out.
Cindy Meager of Citra, Florida gifted “Cindy” to Francesca in February. “Cindy” was a 5 year old paint in a field, still with her mother at 5 years old and never broke. In 90 days, Francesca and Cindy competed at the Sunshine Region Tetrathlon Rally in Sarasota, Florida. They won a BLUE in their division by going double clear! You may not know, a TET Jump Round consists of 12 obstacles along with a gate that has to be ‘ opened and closed’ and a ‘slip rail’ of which the rider has to get off the mount—slide the slip rail, lead the horse through and slide the slip rail back into place and mount the horse and continue the jump round. In Francesca’s life, it was just another day to take a pony that did not know what a brush or a bath was 90 days ago and clear a jump round at 3’3” along with the trail obstacles. They even competed at Tetrathlon Championships in Lexington, Kentucky in July.
In August, Francesca competed her OTTB donated by Dr. Claire Fenger of Sleepy Hollow Racing at River Glen Horse Trials in Tennessee. Gone To Carolina is a 5 year old TB of which Francesca hopes to take through the ranks in the 3-Day Eventing. This mare saw the racetrack a mere 9 times before deciding that she needed another task and is absolutely thrilled to be an Eventer!
