Nicole P. from Bluegrass Pony Club in the Midsouth Region:
1. What kind of horse-related background do you have?
I started taking lessons when I was 7 and rode through high school. I was then on my university’s equestrian team for 3 years and then switched to teaching and riding at the barn where the team rode. I taught 3 years of horse camp at that facility. I know own/operate a private boarding/lesson facility and we offer summer camp.
2. What made you want your child/children to join Pony Club?
She has ridden since she could sit up. 🙂 And has continued to have an interest over the years. Our philosophy for riding and horsemanship is right in line with Pony Club. I wanted to expose her to the mounted and unmounted meetings that Pony Club offers, and the social opportunities as well.
3. In your opinion, what is the best thing your child/children has/have learned from their time as a Pony Club member?
The expectations of responsibility, sportsmanship, team work, respect, kindness, self-sufficiency, etc. All things that we strive for at our own barn and they are reinforced at Pony Club.
4. Do you have a favorite memory of a Pony Club event?
Mine or hers? I was not in Pony Club growing up. My favorite memory of her experiences so far is probably the joy and satisfaction she gets out of participating at Quiz rally. She will do her first mounted rally this summer.
